Want to eliminate or reduce your dependency on contacts or glasses? Refractive surgery may be the answer for you.

Refractive surgery consists of several different procedures. The most popular and most performed is LASIK. The goal of each procedure is to change the way images are focused in your eye. Dr. Burcham began doing refractive surgery in 1984 when it was first introduced, and is very experienced in each type of refractive surgery. He is Board Certified and has been helping people in the Denver Metro area and around the world (through his voluntary mission surgery to Third World Countries) improve their vision for over 20 years. He will help you choose the most appropriate procedure to help you reach your goals.

Dr. Burcham is able to offer both Traditional (Conventional LASIK) and CustomVue LASIK. CustomVue LASIK was approved in the Spring of 2004 and can be used to treat nearsightedness and astigmatism. Traditional LASIK and CustomVue involve many of the same guidelines and pre-surgery diagnostic tests. However, the CustomVue procedure uses in addition, recently developed advanced Wave Scan technology. The Wave Scan enables the physician to measure as never before and improve unique imperfections in each individual’s vision. This enables the surgeon to achieve each person’s “personal best vision”.

Wave Scan technology was originally developed for use in high-powered telescopes to reduce distortions when viewing distant objects in space. This technology has now been applied to laser vision correction. It does so by measuring imperfections in the eye. This has never been possible to measure before using standard methods for glasses or contact lenses. Wave Scan based digital technology identifies and measures imperfections in an individual’s eye 24 times more precisely than the standard method. This allows a custom treatment to be used for your laser vision correction.

Whether you choose Traditional or CustomVue, Dr. Burcham will be with you from pre-diagnostic exam, surgery, and your post op period to help you gain the best possible outcome.

Dr. Burcham now offers choices in the type of flap, the thin flap of tissue that the doctor folds back in order to perform your LASIK procedure. One choice is the traditional method using a microkeratome. This is a precise instrument that uses a blade to create the flap. In addition, patients can now choose to have their flap created using the IntraLase Method.

The IntraLase method uses a laser to create the flap, the thin flap of tissue that the doctor folds back in order to perform your LASIK procedure. Tiny pulses of laser light, a quadrillionth of a second each, create a series of bubbles under the outer layer of the cornea. Dr. Burcham is then able to lift that area and fold it back to create the flap. The IntraLase method is the only 100% blade free approach to creating your corneal flap.

The best way to determine if you are a candidate and what can be achieved in eliminating or reducing your dependency on glasses is to schedule a free LASIK consultation. This examination and consultation has two main purposes:

  • Examination by Dr. Burcham to determine your eye prescription and overall eye health.

  • Education about the procedure to help you make an informed choice.

With all of the advertising about LASIK surgery, it is sometimes hard to choose the right procedure or surgeon to assist you in obtaining your best visual acuity. At Burcham Eyecare Center we believe the skill and personal involvement of the surgeon in all of your care are two important things to consider.

Dr. J. Russell Burcham and his staff will personally be with you every step of the way. Dr. Burcham will see you for your consultation, perform your surgery, call to check up on you the evening of your procedure, and see you for all of your post operative care and visits. This involvement at every step is very important to your overall care and result.

If you’ve been thinking about LASIK for yourself or a loved one, call to schedule your free no obligation consultation. It can be the first step in reducing or eliminating your dependency on contacts or glasses!
